Run for Light 2015

The air at Gardens by the Bay (Bay East Garden) was abuzz with excitement on the evening of 17 January, Saturday. Furry ones of all shapes and sizes were gathered on the wide open lawns together with their owners in preparation for Dog Walk 2015 (the pre-run event of Run for Light 2015).Meanwhile, tantalising aromas wafted from The Travelling Cow food truck and Hard Rock Cafe booth.

The pets team was also out in full force to not only lend support to both Dog Walk 2015 and Run for Light 2015—a 5km run in support of the Guide Dogs Association of the Blind (GDAB)—but also to spend quality time with one another and with our furkids. At the flag-off point for the dog walk, four-legged furballs were raring to go.The scenic route included the waterfront promenade, where both man and man’s best friend could take in views of swaying palm trees and Marina Bay financial district’s stunning skyline. Some pooches even decided to take a spontaneous dip in the ponds along the way.

After the dog walk, pet parents and their furkids were invited to participate in fun-filled contests and activities hosted by Estelle Taylor, founder of luxury pet hotel The Wagington and owner of skateboarding English Bulldog Bobo. Hounds of all breeds gathered on stage to vie for the titles of‘Most Obedient Dog’ and ‘Best Dressed Dog’, with Mango, a one-year-old poodle pup sporting an adorable Superman costume, taking home the latter award.“I’m glad he earned his own keep by winning a supply of his own food,” jests his owner Ling Ling.

Over at the other end of Gardens by the Bay were swarms of runners clad in Run for Light’s neon yellow race tee. Guest of honour and Minister of State for National DevelopmentDesmond Lee, kicked off the run amid adrenaline-filled cheers. The main race included a series of challenging obstacles designed to simulate the experience of being visually impaired, and a special segment where participants wore blindfolds and were led by accompanying guide dogs.

Once the runners passed the finishing line, they joined their fur families at Bay East Gardenfor an after-party that includedscrumptious food, refreshing drinks and live entertainment. Radio DJ Joe Augustin played host, as participants rocked the night away to the music of local bands The Sam Willows, Jack and Rai, and Superfly.
