Benefits Of Paw-fect Office Companions
If you’re working in the office what do you see? Humans with their eyes glued to their digital devices. Have a listen. What do you hear? Phones ringing endlessly, the sharp clacking noises of the keyboard, and the occasional stifling silence.
Well, imagine if you could change this by having a furry companion that happily waggles its tail when it greets you at the door every morning. You will never have Monday blues knowing a bundle of joy is waiting for you at the office!
Reduce Stress
Pets are stress-relievers! When you are having a rough day at work and you look into their eyes or take them into your arms for a short cuddle, don’t you think all your worries seem to dissipate?
According to a 2012 research study published in the International Journal of Workplace Health Management, on-the-job stress levels fell among a group of Greensboro, N.C. employees when they had their dogs by their side.
The participants’ comments were pretty positive too! Some said that having dogs in the office are “great stress relievers”, and that “pets in the workplace can be a great bonus for employee morale”.
Guess it is time to ditch the stress ball and get a furball instead!
Increase Workplace Interactions
If you’ve worked in a particular company for a while now but hang out with the same few people, having an office pet might just help break the ice and get you a new lunch buddy.
Imagine a ball of fur running around the room and between your desks—it will add some dynamics and there are bound to be some conversations. This will also create an open environment for comfortable interactions and discussions which in turn, improve camaraderie and help strengthen bonds.
Think about it, your boss might be your new bestie!
Promote Healthy Living
Here’s your chance to take a breather from work! Dogs need to be walked daily and your office pooch is no different. Take Fido for a short stroll — it may help refresh your mind and boost creative juices. Plus. exercising can help improve emotional well-being and overall health in general.
While not all office pets need daily walks, they do need companionship and the occasional tender loving care. If you’re feeling stressed, take a step away from your desk and give good ‘ol Puss a scratch on the head. If she’s feeling playful, whip out that feather wand and give your arm muscles a good workout at the same time.
According to studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, owning a pet can decrease blood pressure and cholesterol levels and increase opportunities for exercise and socialisation, both of which have immense health benefits.
