If you love hamsters, then choosing to adopt a rescue animal is one of the best things you can do. There is a paw trail of shelters and organisations that have plenty of hamsters for a place to call a forever home. Animal shelters where you can adopt a hamster from:
• HAMSTER SOCIETY (SINGAPORE)
Hamster Society (Singapore (HSS) is a registered non-profit group that rescues and fosters unwanted hamsters. They strive to uphold the standard for small pet care through education and awareness.

If you would like to buy a hamster from a pet shop, then it’s a good idea to make sure that you’re not buying one from a breeder or shop that doesn’t have the animals’ best interests at heart. Check all the pet cages on display. If one of the hamsters looks sick, or even if one cages is unclean, it is not wise to buy from the pet shop as there is a chance that communicable diseases can be transmitted within animals in the same pet shop.
However, there are many other diseases that can be contracted by your new pet before the sale that will not show any sign or symptom during the purchase. If you do buy from a pet shop and your new pet falls ill, seek veterinary advice immediately to ensure the disease is contracted before the sale, and then try to claim veterinary fees from the pet shop. Do not ever be persuaded into an exchange for another pet.
There are definitely pet shops out there selling pets ethically and honestly, in a clean environment. However, the difficulty is in finding them, as they are not common.
