One of the easiest ways to entertain our furkids would be with a laser pointer. It is not uncommon to stumble upon a video of Fido or Puss running around chasing after and attempting to “catch” a single laser beam, and this can entertain them for hours on end. Drawing on this seemingly simple concept, PetCube was invented.

This product is the brain child of Alex Neskin of Ukraine, a paw-rent himself, who invented the wi-fi-connected webcam when he needed a solution to his dog's incessant barking whenever he left the house. Indeed, webcams installed to “spy” on your furkid to ensure its safety is not new but they are unable to distract your little one from your absence. PetCube, on the other hand, stands out from the other usual surveillance cameras, being fitted with a laser pointer that you will be able to control via an easy-to-use phone application. It also boasts a microphone and a speaker for you to “speak” to your furkid.

And no, you won't have to be on your smartphone 24/7. PetCube's phone application is an ingenious social networking platform for PetCube users that allows you to grant permanent or temporary access to your friends, family, and fellow users who love your little one as much as you do. This way, you can share the responsibility, and of course the joy, of playing with Fido or Puss with many others.

According to online reviews, the app is a “great community” with like-minded pet loving people, so rest assured that no matter the number of photos and videos that you post of your furry one, you will not be called the “crazy cat lady” as you might have if you were to do the same on your mainstream social media platforms. If that does not sound good, we don't know what does!

At the moment, Petcube Inc. does not ship directly to Singapore, but you will be able to get your hands on it from Amazon.com at US$199 (S$278), although a powerpoint adaptor will be required to use the device in Singapore. That, we think, is a small inconvenience for the benefits that Petcube could bring.
