The Blooms, an Australian family, comprises of a husband and wife team, Cameron and Sam, and three children, Reuben, Noah and Oli… as well as a magpie named Penguin.

Penguin was rescued by Noah in 2013 when she fell from her nest at around three weeks of age, and was nursed back to health by the family. When she was well enough to leave, she did – but the grateful magpie often returns to the Blooms just to spend time with them.

The magpie has full access to their home, and even lives with them for long periods of rain, undoubtedly bonded with the family who saved her life.

Cameron Bloom has also produced some serene photographs of the relationship between the bird and her family. Penguin is often seen waiting for the kids to come home from school, and also enjoys playing catch, or nesting on any family member’s head or on their shoulders.  She is even said to mimick the family when they wave their arms, by flapping her own wings!
