Named The Ark, this new facility is set to open early 2016, and is said to cost a whooping $48 million (S$65 million), with a 30-year lease signed between The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey with Ark Development for a space spanning over 178,000 sq ft.

Catered to both domestic and farm animals, the new terminal will provide services of boarding, kennels, quarantine, import, export and transportation of animals big and small, with additional facilities of specialised climate controlled vehicles, an aviary and veterinarians to help relax the animals before their flight. In fact, the export handling system is designed by Professor Temple Grandin, a leading authority on livestock movement, so the handling of farm and livestock animals will be done efficiently and safely with less stress.

A pet resort – Paradise 4 Paws -- willl also be on board, providing kennels and modern cargo holding spaces to ensure all furry globetrotters flying in or out will be taken care of.
