SPCA Launches Covid-19 Pet Food Support Programme

SINGAPORE: Animal caregivers, including pet guardians and community cat and dog feeders, like the rest of us, are affected by the Covid-19 crisis too,
 
To help those in need at this time, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has rolled out a short-term pet food support programme. As part of the programme, Hill’s Science Diet will supply SPCA all dog and cat food at low cost, while Kohepets (an online pet food and supplies store), will deliver the food to the homes of participants.

The programme is expected to run for three to six months, but this will be reassessed if needed, based on the demand from the community. 

The programme hopes to help at least 1,000 animals under the care of pet owners, community caregivers and individual rescuers who are struggling financially. Applicants will be screened and will be asked to provide details of the animal(s) under their care. 
 
The SPCA has set aside an initial $50,000 for this programme and an online fundraising campaign has been launched to help provide additional funds. With the public’s support, it is hoped that the SPCA can reach many more needy animals. Donations are eligible for tax deduction.

Dr Jaipal Singh Gill, SPCA Executive Director, said, “Many people are suffering in this unprecedented crisis and are worried about their ability to look after themselves, their families and the animals under their care. We hope that this programme can provide a small amount of relief to those who give so much to the animals.”
