Trick or treat: 25th Halloween Dog Parade
For three hours on Saturday, thousands of spectators and hundreds of furkids gathered at Manhattan’s Tomkins Square Park—New York City’s first and largest dog run—for what was billed as the largest Halloween dog parade in the U.S. No registration or entrance fee was required, and all it took to join in the fun was a donation of any amount that would go towards managing and improving the park.
At noon, the 300 pup-ticipants put on their various costumes and gathered around the stage to compete. From superheroes to sushi, there was every imaginable breed and costume in sight! Several paw-rents even poked fun at presidential candidate Donald Trump by featuring their pups with a blonde wing and a sharp suit to match. The most popular outfit that day, however, was the dinosaur—most likely because of the recent release of the Jurassic World film.
There were also two paralysed rescue dogs, Maury and Little Miss Lexi, whose wheelchairs were turned into a Google Map street view car that melted our hearts!
The four-legged contestants took turns to strut their style before the judges, hoping to bag the coveted Best in Show, as well as the thousands of dollars worth of prizes sponsored by Purina Beggin’. The first prize went to a Texan trio with two Chihuahuas and a Yorkshire Terrier that donned Day of the Dead-themed costumes.
Besides the Halloween fashion show, all contestants and spectators got a chance to parade their costumes and a shot at the raffle. For more information, visit their Facebook page here.
We shall let the pictures do the talking—these paw-rents are as creative as they are dedicated!
