Handling debt collections for 20 years, Jeremy Cohen was a successful attorney for the longest time. But he wanted more. So he sold the general practice law firm that he founded in 2007, and took the step that eventually changed his career forever.
At that time, a German Shepherd belonging to Cohen's stepchildren had bit someone and some other pups. When the dog was asked to be put down, Cohen decided to represent the family, and thankfully, the appeal was successful.
“We’re too smart as a society to just say ‘The dog bit something. Let’s kill it,’” says Cohen. He adds that it would’ve been better if the decision to put the dog down was made after thorough investigation and consideration, but that wasn’t the case with his stepchildren’s German Shepherd.
And that was the start of how doggy lawyer career: In 2015, Cohen opened his Boston Dog Lawyers practice which specialises in representing pooches and their paw-rents. His website boldly writes, "It's time to hire Boston Dog Lawyers because it's time to Bark back!”

In the past year, Cohen has handled nearly 70 cases, most of them involving dogs biting others as well as custody cases. His passion and drive have helped save several pooches from being put to sleep, and he sees himself as someone who is able to lend a voice to “clients” that bark, but are unable to speak.
To Cohen, this newfound venture has been very fulfilling. “I’ve kept dogs alive,” he says.
