Pets Banned from Air Cabins?
This move comes after a government agency received three consumer complaints about how their cat allergies were not taken into consideration when the airlines allowed cats to travel in their cabins. The Canadian Transportation Agency ruled that cat allergy, or any pet related allergy, should be regarded as a disability that airlines should not ignore. However, the CTA is not enforcing the new ruling yet. The CTA will be looking into ways to provide “appropriate accommodation” for allergic passengers.
Under federal regulations, all airlines are required to allow service animals like guide dogs to travel with their owners in passenger cabins. However, regular pets do not always have the same luxury. Currently, both airlines have policies in place that only allow up to four small dogs, cats, birds or rabbits to travel with their owners in the passenger cabin.
