Sadly, animal welfare is back in the headlines of Singapore news, with another case of alleged cat abuse. A stray ginger cat named Boyboy, who resided in the area of block 220 in Ang Mo Kio, has died after suffering from injuries related to being impaled through the rectum and stomach by a hard object.

His usual feeder, Crystal Tan, discovered the tomcat’s gruesome ending - covered in blood and barely breathing with a hole in his stomach. Sadly, Boyboy passed away the next day.

It is with a touch of irony, to note that this case has surfaced after the new Animal Crime Investigation Unit was launched by ACRES barely a few days before. The Cat Welfare Society has responded, saying that “The spate of animal abuse in AMK has gone unabated”.

This is the latest case of abuse amongst many, including two other cat abuse cases within the Ang Mo Kio vicinity, with the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) releasing a photo of a bespectacled male whom they believe to be connected to the cases.

Investigations are still currently underway, and the atrocities inflicted upon Boyboy have since spread on social media, angering netizens.

Ms Tan, who still cares for Boyboy’s siblings, has offered a $1,000 reward for anyone with leads to the culprit, and like many other cat lovers, the hope exists that whoever committed such a heinous act will be prosecuted soon.
