The Huntress and the Hunted
On the 13th of April, comedian and renowned animal lover Ricky Gervais tweeted a photo of a trophy-hunter Rebecca Francis lying next to a dead giraffe, which she had presumably killed.

The post went viral within hours, and the huntress made a public statement, indicating that she had killed it as it was “old and close to death”—implying she meant to put it out of its misery, and that the giraffe did not go to waste as the locals also used its fur, meat and bones.
In true Ricky Gervais fashion, the comedian responded with sarcasm:

Since then, Francis has responded further saying that she has received flak from animal-lovers threatening her and her family, and that Gervais’s choice to single her out as a trophy hunter is a form of sexism.
Francis, who was the winner of the American teleivision series Extreme Huntress, has killed other animals, such as brown bears, moose, antelopes – all of which she poses next to with the same beaming smile. She maintains that she has no regrets with her lifestyle, and Gervais has also maintained that regardless of gender, anyone who hunts for sport is vile.
