Our prayers and condolences are with the family and friends of Ranee.

On 7 April, the senior Jack Russell Terrier was on his daily walk with the family’s domestic helper when he was viciously attacked by two unleashed mongrels in the neighbourhood.  Ranee was leashed at the time of the incident.

The domestic helper, Ms Jothi, had led the pooch away from three retriever-sized mongrels when she noticed that they weren’t leashed. However, just then, two bicycles whizzed past her with the three mutts on its tail. When she turned back, the Jack Russell Terrier was already in the jaws of two of the mongrels. It took eight people to pry Ranee free, and blood was dripping from the mouth of one of the mutts.

As all three mongrels wore collars, it was presumed that they had escaped from their homes while their owners were out. Ranee suffered severe punctures on her intestines, and subsequently went through a five-hour surgery. Five days later, she passed away.

The police and AVA are currently investigating the matter. Many are concerned for the welfare of the residents residing nearby, as the elderly and young children could just as easily fall victim to such attacks if the dogs are allowed to roam.
